PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

It’s hard to believe but summer is right around the corner, kicking off the season with Memorial Day on Monday, May 26. Please be aware of the boats and trailers on your side of the road!

Keep your eyes on our calendar for upcoming events, then come down and support your Center and have a good time while doing so. Your Board puts a lot of work and effort into the planning and implementation of these events. Let’s get out and participate. If you have any suggestions for any type of event or anything you would like to see the Center do, let’s hear from you. Our April Pot Luck on the 19^th, which was titled “Bring Your Best Dish”, was an epicurean delight. There were 20 people present with enough food to feed 40.

With the return of Rosalie Bly -- Welcome Back Rosalie --, we now have 106 paid members plus our life time member and benefactor Elsie Plunkett.

MAY POT LUCK

May’s Pot Luck on Saturday, May 17, will be a Pancake Breakfast and will be open to the public. The reason for this is that the patrons of the various businesses at the Spanish Flat Village Strip have planned a “Berryessa Back-Roads Spring Fling” on the same day. The idea is to have the various vendors, patrons and visitors fill up at our great pancake breakfast before enjoying the Spring Fling.

Breakfast will be served from 8am until 11am. The cost will be $5.00 for ham and or sausage and pancakes. Juice and eggs can be added for an additional charge. Jack Short, Dudley Rutherford, Mike Wright and Jeannie Ferles have volunteered to be our fry cooks. We are still in need of a few more volunteers. If you would like to help, give the Lindsey’s a call at 258-2320.

UPCOMING EVENTS

May 5, Bingo Pot Luck 12pm

May 16, a presentation on bone health and fall prevention, will be held at the Senior Annex, 1500 Jefferson St., Napa from 9:30am-1:30pm. A signup sheet is located at the entrance to the Center and if there is enough interest a car pool will be set up.

May 17, 8am – 11am, Pancake Breakfast – open to the public –at the Center.

May 17, Spring into Summer Faire, at the Spanish Flat Village Center from 9:30am – 4:30pm.

May 17, Spanish Flat Store and Deli “Grand Opening”. Marcia Ritz, one of our newest members will be opening the Spanish Flat Store and Deli on this date. Yeah!

May 28, Memorial Day – NO BINGO

June 21, Early Release Wine, Cheese, Olive Oil and Food Tasting, 4pm – 7pm, Berryessa Senior Center

July 19, Casino Night/Pasta Dinner/Big Raffle, 5:30pm – 10:00pm, Berryessa Senior Center.

BITS AND PIECES

·         Effie Macholz still needs your help in collecting various items to send to our troops in Iraq.

·         Betty Fehrenkamp has the 2008 Berryessa Calendars for Sale for $6.00. She also has prior year calendars for sale at $3.00 each.

·         If you are interested in purchasing any of the craft items in the craft room, give Betty Petersen a call at 448-9740.

·         If you would like to join the Friday Night Card Game, give Paul Quarneri a call at 966-0357 or leave a message on the Center’s answer machine. That way he can give you a call if a card game is planned. Card games are usually held every Friday night at the center.

·       Bill Rahe, who is not only a member of the club but also a member of the Lake Berryessa Chamber of Commerce, suggested that Peter Kilkus, also a member and the President of the Lake Berryessa Chamber of Commerce, contact the local TV stations to see if they would put Lake Berryessa on their weather maps. To date a few stations have responded, let’s see what happens.

·       Remember, we are still collecting for a “Big Screen TV” for the Center. More information can be found at the Center.
